Hi, I'm Clare!

I'm an interior designer, educator and Mum of 3 boys.

After years of using SketchUp I've learned so much about how to create and present my drawings, but I had to do this the hard way - through trial and error and endless frustration.

I created the SketchUp for Interior Design Beginners course because I wish it had been around when I had first started my business. It would have saved me hundreds of hours of searching YouTube videos and making lots of mistakes, rather than doing the really fun stuff like creating awesome designs!

This course has been made to help you learn SketchUp quickly and correctly so you can get up and running as fast as possible, whether you are a designer, decorator or simply want to design your own home.

But this isn't a boring online course. We have lots of fun along the way via surprise bonuses, extra content and within our private Facebook group.

SketchUp is the one piece of software that I use every single day in my design business to create drawings that are used to guide client projects. My clients love how their designs are presented in 3D so they can clearly see how their homes will look once their project is completed. I've also had builders (contractors) tell me that my drawings are some of the most detailed and helpful that they've ever worked from which is critical for avoiding mistakes during a build!

On top of all this, SketchUp has helped me receive a number of awards for my designs and get my projects featured in many top interior design publications.

So stop trying to figure it out on your own and join us.

I can't wait to meet you on the inside of the course!

SketchUp for Interior Design Beginners Course

SketchUp is an amazing piece of software and has helped me so much on my interior design journey!

I've used SketchUp to help me redesign five (yes five!) homes for my family. It's also been central to my interior design practice, which I started from the ground up over eight years ago and have since grown into a seven figure per year business.

I wanted to help designers and aspiring designers by giving them the tools to help them build their dream homes, give them a start in creating their own successful businesses, or even help designers in their existing businesses get more clients and look more professional.

This is why I created the SketchUp for Interior Design Beginners Course.

I've collated the best content to deliver you a curriculum which will give you everything you need to get you up and running with SketchUp quickly and easily. Lessons are delivered online via step-by-step video lessons and PDF worksheets, so you can learn at your own pace no matter where you are in the world!

Here is what you'll discover in the SketchUp for Interior Design Beginners course...

The most important SketchUp tools and how to simply and easily navigate the interface. Learning the basics of SketchUp properly will ensure you have a solid foundation to build on. You can learn on a PC or a MAC interface - we support both platforms!

Set your models up properly from the outset using groups and tags/layers- that way you can avoid one of the biggest pitfalls for beginners learning how to use SketchUp

Learn how to furnish and space plan 2D models using the 3D Warehouse. Understand how to move and scale 2D objects and apply textures to create interest and realism in your model

Bring your 2D drawings to life by transforming them into detailed 3D models!

Design a kitchen, laundry, bathroom, and mudroom from scratch! So you can use these lessons on your own home or design projects or you can model along with our project house

Complete your model with the important details, like bathroom fixtures and fittings, millwork and joinery, furniture, artwork and accessories. This will turn your design vision into a reality (this step is also super fun and very addictive!)

Frequently Asked Questions

If you've still got questions, here are the answers!

Is this course only for Australian students, or can anyone join?

This course is for anyone around the world who would like to learn SketchUp online! We have students join us from not only Australia but also from Canada, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Europe - among other countries as well! We are a very international course and welcome anyone who wants to learn SketchUp in a fun and engaging way!

Is this course in person or online?

The course is delivered entirely online. Once the course starts you will be provided with a login to our learning platform where you will be provided with the video trainings and downloadable PDF worksheets.

Is the course available all at once or do I have to wait for modules to be released??

The course can be taken at the pace that works for you. Each module that you complete will unlock the next module. So if you have time and want to complete the course over a few days, then you can do that! But if you prefer to take your time and complete it over a number of weeks or months, then that is totally fine as well. As you move through the course you will also unlock other bonus trainings and surprises! So keep an eye out for those along the way. :)

I'm a complete novice when it comes to design. Can I really get the results you are showing here?

Yes!!!!!! We have had nearly 1500 students go through this course and about 50% of them have been home renovators or design enthusiasts with no training or experience in design.

I'm not very tech savvy - will this be too hard for me?

Don't worry! SketchUp is very user friendly and is easy to learn once you understand the basics.

If you've got average computer skills (i.e. can use other computer programs, work with a mouse, download files) and you are keen to learn, you will be able to learn SketchUp with this course.

The videos are extremely easy to follow with step by step instructions for you to 'follow along' and practice creating the same designs you see me model. In each module you will be given tasks to practice so your skills improve. By the end of the course you will be able to model kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and more!

But it will take work and persistence on your part as well, you will need to allocate time to practice and improve your skills.

A basic level of computer skills and assumed knowledge is required to undertake the course. This includes being able to:

- Download and save files and images onto your device

- Unzip files

- Locate downloaded files on your device

- Use a mouse with a scroll wheel

Do I have to purchase SketchUp Pro to take this course or can I use the Free version?

There are both free and paid (pro) versions of SketchUp and although you will be able to get started on the course using the free version, if you get more serious about using SketchUp I will be quickly recommending you move on to SketchUp Pro (there is an annual subscription fee for this). I will go through the pros and cons of each version when we first start the course so you can work out what you think will be best for you.

As an Approved Training Partner with SketchUp Australia I offer an exclusive discount on the purchase of SketchUp products for all students enrolled in the course.

The course itself is recorded using SketchUp Pro, which has a different interface to the free version. I will go through the two different interfaces but ultimately SketchUp Pro is a much more powerful software and you can do quite a bit more with it. SketchUp Australia offer a free trial for SketchUp Pro, which gives you a chance to try it out before purchasing the annual subscription and this might be a good option if you're not quite ready to commit to the subscription fee.

How long does the course go for?

The course is entirely self paced.

It is broken down in to 6 core content modules, plus other bonus trainings along the way.

If you feel you need any support as you move through the course there is the opportunity to submit questions to our regular live Q&A sessions where you can ask questions about anything you're having difficulties with.

Do you offer refunds?

We are completely confident that this course works and will take you from being a newbie SketchUp user to being able to model basic interiors.

But if you can show that you have completed all the lessons and activities and you still feel the course isn't right for you, then we are happy to provide you with a refund, minus $50 administration fee.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who would like to learn the basics of SketchUp and be able to apply this to an interior design or decoration setting. In particular we have the following types of people already enrolled in the course:

- home renovators who might like to design their kitchens, bathrooms, joinery themselves, without needing to pay for an interior designer to do this for them.

- designers or decorators who would like to improve the service they offer their clients and be able to visually represent their ideas in a more professional manner.

- any design enthusiast who wants to learn a fun new piece of software!

- kitchen and bathroom designers who are using 3D software already but want to have more ability to customise their designs than what their current software allows.

How long does each module take?

The course videos and activities should take you around 2-3 hours to complete for each module. But if you want to start to improve your SketchUp skills I suggest you allocated a few more hours to just play around and practice in SketchUp.

Trust me, once you start to get going SketchUp can become very addictive and fun to use!

The course is quite expensive - is it worth it?

Think about how much interior design fees cost. When I work with clients one on one my fees are around $10,000-$15,000 to create SketchUp designs and drawings that are suitable for use with builders/trades people.

Or think about the value of up-levelling the services you are able to offer your design clients. You will be able to take on more complicated projects and present more professional drawings - which will mean better clients (and more money in your pocket!)

So when you look at it like that the course is pretty darn cheap!

What if I have specific questions that need to be answered? Will I get one on one help?

This is not a 1:1 training course.

BUT as part of the course you will be invited to join our private FB group. In the group you will be able to learn alongside other enthusiastic members who are all passionate about design and who are all on the same path as you. The FB group provides a great place for you to be able to ask questions of others in the group.

Throughout the course I will also do regular live Q&A sessions within the FB group. You will be able to submit your specific questions prior to these sessions for me to answer.

I already know how to use SketchUp a little, will this course still suit me?

This course is targeted at beginner users but as the weeks go on we do cover more complicated modelling.

I suggest you take a look at the full weekly break down of content. If you think you have gaps in your knowledge then I would highly suggest you take the course to make sure you are organising your workflow correctly.

Is this course for MAC or PC users?

I use a MAC and the course videos have been recorded on my MAC. But where I know about any particular differences between MAC and PC I will let you know. Most of the interface is almost the same across MAC and PC so if you are a PC user you will still be able to use the course and adapt some of the actions to suit how PC works.

Lesson summaries are provided with differences pointed out for PC users.

Is the course done in Metric or Imperial measurements?

The course will be demonstrated in metric measurements (i.e. m, cm, mm). This doesn't mean that if you prefer to use imperial measurements (inch, feet) that you can't take the course. Everything we learn will be completely the same across either measurement, you just choose a different template to work in (which I show you how to do). But throughout the course I will be demonstrating how to model in metric measurements.

System requirements - will my computer work?

Before purchasing the course please make sure that your hardware and software requirements meet what is required to run SketchUp.

Please find information about system requirements: https://help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/system-requirements
